Along with a large variety of food, supplements and other products for the health-conscious consumer, a knowledgeable staff is available to answer whatever questions the customer might have about their specific needs, said Mary Ann O'Dell, nutrition director and spokeswoman for Akins Natural Foods Market, which was voted No. 1 in the Best Health Food Store category.
To what do you attribute your win?
One of the things we really specialize in is customer service and information, we train our staff to make sure they're able to answer questions. We have free information in the store about health and nutrition. The quality of the products we offer and the amount of products we offer.
What do you consider your specialty?
One of our specialties is food for special diets, such as gluten free, vegetarian and low sodium.
What changes have you made in the past year?
We are continually adding new products. As new products become available we will continue to review and add them to the store.
What is the biggest influence on your business?
I think that customers view their health as a necessity, unlike video games and entertainment, which are options. We provide the service and products they need to maintain their health.
