Bible School at Redeemer Monday
The Open Door Community Center is expanding its preschool program to meet the needs of families with children ages 3-5.
During the 2007-08 school year, Open Door expanded its preschool from three days to five. For the 2008-09 school year, parents will be given numerous options for preschool and daycare, including a full-day program.
Cost for full-time programming is $300 a month. Beginning Sept. 3, Open Door will offer a morning preschool, lunch program and additional preschool activities in the afternoon until 3:30 p.m. Daycare is available from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Open Door Community Center has been operating since 1976 at 1140 S. 12th St. The three Bismarck-Mandan United Methodist Churches – McCabe, First and Calvary – support the center’s programs.

Launchfest, an annual outdoor church-related event, is set for Aug. 23 at Sertoma Park in Bismarck and will include free admission to Dakota Zoo and the Superslide Amusement Park, a free concert, a donation drive and more.
Launchfest runs from 1 to 9 p.m. that day. Those attending will have free admission to Dakota Zoo and the Superslide from 4 to 7 p.m. A free concert in the park will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Other activities include food, face painting and free rides.
This year’s event includes a food and school supply drive to benefit the God’s Child Project, Ruth Meiers Hospitality House and Carrie’s Kids. Canned goods and school supplies may be dropped off at the park gates.

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes will hold an chapel service after a motocross event Aug. 23 at the Bismarck track at the Burleigh County fairgrounds. The FCA will have a local coach from Horizon Middle School’s FCA Huddle offering a mini-sermon after the event. Bibles will be available, food will be served and door prizes will be awarded. Everyone is welcome to attend the free FCA event which begins at approximately 6 p.m. after the race. The event sponsor is Cycle Hutt.

The Baptist Home in Bismarck is sponsoring a benefit motorcycle run Aug. 24 to raise funds for the purchase of heart defibrillators.
Staging for the run is from 12:30 to 1 p.m. that day at the Baptist Home, 1100 E. Boulevard Ave. The motorcycle route is from Bismarck to Sterling, south to Linton, then back to Bismarck. A suggested donation of $5 per rider will be taken at the staging area. Bottled water also will be available at the staging area.

This summer, children attending periodic Vacation Bible School Nights at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Mandan have been exploring the Bible through reality TV themes, including “Deal or No Deal,” on how to deal with temptations, and “The Biggest Loser,” on coping with anger and prejudice and learning how to forgive.
The VBS Night for August is called “Survivor:Nineveh,” and focuses on surviving the problems of life.The session runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday and is open to children from age 4 through those going into sixth grade.
