Posted on: Monday, 11 August 2008, 12:01 CDT

Kansas Health Policy Authority has selected Thomson Reuters, a provider of electronic information and decision support tools, to develop a data system to analyze the cost and effectiveness of healthcare in Kansas, US.

The new data system, which comprises of a data repository and a data analytic interface (DAI), is expected to consolidate and manage healthcare data for several state programs.

The data repository will contain information from the Medicaid management information system, the state employee health benefit program and the Kansas health insurance information system. The DAI is expected to enable Kansas Health Policy Authority (KHPA) to compare health care service and use patterns to identify areas for focus and improvements.

According to the agreement, Thomson Reuters will deploy its Medstat Advantage Suite solution, which combines a customized repository of health care data with a set of analytic tools. KHPA has awarded the company a three-year contract through a competitive bidding process. The agency has the option to renew the contract for two additional years.

Jon Newpol, executive vice president for the health care business of Thomson Reuters, said: "We are excited about providing our data integration and analytic capabilities to enhance KHPA's ability to set an effective policy agenda and manage the cost and quality of health care in Kansas."
