Community Hospital to Serve Town

August 18, 2008

A Community hospital and health centre is to be built in Ashbourne.

The pounds20m development will benefit more than 35,000 people when it opens in 2011.

It will replace the Ashbourne Health Centre, in Compton Street, and St Oswald’s Community Hospital.

Derbyshire County Primary Care Trust has been given approval for the centre by the East Midlands Strategic Health Authority and building work is expected to begin this month.

The trust is setting up a patient group to help steer the project. Details of how to get involved will be released soon.

Trust director Tracy Allen said: “We want to involve local people in making the facilities the centre of community activity and a landmark everyone can be proud of.”

Southern Derbyshire Local Improvement Finance Trust Company is responsible for the design, development and maintenance of the building.
