Cascadia Consulting Group's Bill Sipper Elected to National Osteoporosis Foundation's Board of Trustees

Posted on: Monday, 18 August 2008, 12:00 CDT

RAMSEY, N.J., Aug. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Cascadia Consulting Group's Bill Sipper has been unanimously elected to the National Osteoporosis Foundation's Board of Trustees for a three-year term. Mr. Sipper has been working with the National Osteoporosis Foundation (http://www.nof.org/) for the past two years. The National Osteoporosis Foundation is the nation's only voluntary health organization solely focused on osteoporosis and bone health.

"It is my honor to join the Board of such an illustrious organization. Osteoporosis is a major health problem in the United States and is often preventable with some measures like weight bearing exercise and by getting the recommended daily allowance of Calcium, Vitamin D, and Magnesium. I am looking forward to working with the National Osteoporosis Foundation to help Americans reduce the risk of Osteoporosis."

According to a recent study by The Alliance for Aging Research in partnership with the National Osteoporosis Foundation:

Osteoporosis affects 10 million Americans over the age of 50, and close to 34 million more have low bone mass which increases their risk for the disease.

Half of all women and up to one in four men over the age of 50 will experience an osteoporosis-related fracture during their lifetime.

Fractures resulting from osteoporosis can cost individuals more than $81,000 during their lifetime, totaling some $19 billion a year for Americans.

Osteoporosis is estimated to cost the nation $25.3 billion annually by 2025 unless we find better ways to prevent and treat the disease.

"There is a very big misconception about Osteoporosis," adds Mr. Sipper. "People perceive this as an old person's disease and it is not. It is a disease that effects everyone and we need to make sure Americans of all ages, especially during youth, are getting enough Calcium each and every day so they do not suffer with Osteoporosis later."

Mr. Sipper is a Senior Partner at Cascadia Consulting Group and has been a guest speaker at Columbia University School of Business. He has given many speeches around the world including addresses at the 3rd Annual Bottled Water Congress in Torino, Italy, the Pan Arab Congress on Osteoporosis in Tunisia, Natural Products Expo East (Baltimore), Natural Products Expo Asia (Hong Kong), Innobev US (New York). He has been quoted many times in several trade and consumer publications ranging from Beverage World, Barrons, NY Times and Brandweek. Mr. Sipper has contributed articles to several food and beverage trade journals.

Mr. Sipper is also an Advisory Board Member of The Walden Woods Project (http://www.walden.org/), and supporter of the Water Keeper Alliance (http://www.waterkeeper.org/) and Riverkeeper (http://www.riverkeeper.org/).

Osteoporosis literally means "porous bones." It is a disease in which bones become more fragile and likely to break, even from a slight strain or fall. Osteoporosis is often called the 'silent disease' because there are no symptoms until a bone breaks. Fractures related to osteoporosis cost the nation approximately $18 billion a year.
