GILBERT, Ariz., Aug. 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Gilbert Hospital has completed construction and received licensing from the Arizona Department of Health Services to open its Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and officially opened August 13th, 2008. The first patient was admitted to the ICU on the following Saturday. Construction of Gilbert Hospital’s three-bed ICU began earlier this summer and was completed on time. The ICU is located in a remodeled area of the hospital previously occupied by the hospital’s original inpatient unit. Those inpatient beds were relocated this past December upon the opening of an 8,500 square foot, 16-bed inpatient expansion. The addition of ICU services enable the hospital to better serve the needs of the community.

“This simply adds to the list of services Gilbert Hospital has to offer,” stated Dr. Tim A. Johns, Gilbert Hospital’s founder and medical director. “The more we grow in tandem with the needs of the people we serve, the better off everyone is,” continued Johns.

Dr. Muhammad Salim has accepted the role of Medical Director for the Gilbert Hospital ICU. Dr. Salim is an experienced, well respected Pulmonologist, Board Certified in Critical Care Medicine with areas of interest including Sleep Medicine. As the Medical Director and a patient care provider, his experience compliments the patient focused philosophy of Gilbert Hospital.
