Pennsylvania Department of Health Confirms Rabid Kitten Found in York County

HARRISBURG, Pa., Aug. 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania Department of Health said today that a kitten found in the Seven Valleys area of southern York County has tested positive for rabies.
The young, multicolored calico kitten was found at the intersection of Union Church and Reynolds Mill roads in Springfield Township on Aug. 6. A local resident took the kitten home. It appeared ill at that time and died on Aug. 9.
Health Department officials would like to speak to anyone who had contact with the kitten or knows anything about the kitten's origin to ensure there is no risk to humans or other animals. Anyone who may have information is urged to call the York County State Health Center at (717) 771-4505 or the Department of Health at 1-877-PA-HEALTH.
Touching or handling a potentially rabid animal does not constitute exposure unless you have been bitten or scratched. Under these circumstances, you should seek medical attention immediately.
