Transplant First at Heart Op Centre
A WOMAN has undergone the first heart transplant at a new centre.
Georgina Burt, 53, of Falkirk, will leave the Golden Jubilee National Hospital in Clydebank, near Glasgow, today after her operation last month.
The West of Scotland Heart and Lung Centre, which opened in May, is expected to carry out about 15 heart transplants a year on patients from across Scotland.
Lynne Ayton, general manager for cardiothoracic services, said their first patient had “responded so well”.
Heart transplants were previously carried out at Glasgow’s Royal Infirmary.
