Ovarian Cancer National Alliance Launches Public Awareness Campaign on Ovarian Cancer

WASHINGTON, June 1 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The Ovarian Cancer National Alliance (OCNA) is excited to announce the launch of a major North American advertising campaign aimed at raising awareness about symptoms, support and treatment of ovarian cancer.
In 2005, 22,200 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer and an estimated 16,200 will die of the disease.
The campaign -- themed "Turn Up the Volume" -- was developed to encourage women and doctors to listen more closely to subtle symptoms that may represent ovarian cancer. These symptoms can include abdominal pain, unusual bloating, urgent urination, nausea, gas and indigestion. Although ovarian cancer is the most fatal gynecologic cancer, the chance for survival increases significantly if the disease is detected and treated early.
Since there is no reliable screening test for ovarian cancer, knowing the signs and symptoms of the disease is critical. This campaign aims to raise awareness of these signs and symptoms, and promote early detection of ovarian cancer.
The campaign consists of positive, empowering, high-energy print, radio and television ads to be launched in June. OCNA's strategy is to increase momentum and awareness leading up to Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month in September.
The Turn Up the Volume campaign was developed by F.E.M. (Female Engineered Marketing), a division of Quiller & Blake Advertising, for the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance in the U.S as well as the National Ovarian Cancer Association in Canada.
OCNA is seeking corporate sponsors for the campaign to help support the purchase of broadcast airtime and print space to better spread the message. Corporate sponsors interested in supporting this critical cause can contact Sherry Salway Black toll-free at 1-866- 399-6262. More information on OCNA and the campaign are available at http://www.ovariancancer.org
The Ovarian Cancer National Alliance is a survivor-led umbrella organization that strives to unite ovarian cancer activists, women's health advocates and health professionals in a national movement to conquer ovarian cancer.
