Report on Green Industrial Park
CAMDEN COUNTY | The UNC Institute for the Environment will present the results of a feasibility study for a green industrial park in northern Camden County at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Camden Middle School auditorium.
Doors will open and refreshments will be served at 5 p.m.
The school is at 248 Scotland Road. The presentation is open to the public.
Bertie County
Mature patrons TO meet on tuesday
The August Mature Patrons’ Program will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Sallie Harrell Jenkins Memorial Library.
The program will feature radio personality Don Upchurch, who will preview his soon to be released audio book “Pursuit of Dorothie.”
The book examines the mystery of a colonist who vanished without a trace from Roanoke Island in August 1587.
The library is located at 302 Broad St.

ministry to give bikes to needy kids
The Currituck County Sheriff’s Office and Moyock United Methodist Church will distribute refurbished bicycles to disadvantaged children in Currituck.
The Bicycle Ministry of the Men’s Group at the church will fix up bikes that the Sheriff’s Office finds or that have been abandoned.
The Bicycle Ministry is in its initial collection phase but plans to have the bikes ready for distribution at Christmas time.
Dare County
arts council seeks applications
The Dare County Arts Council is accepting applications for the 2008- 09 Grassroots Arts Program.
The arts council is entitled to subgrant 50 percent of its Grassroots subsidy. The rest is used to support the arts council’s administration and programs. The total available for subgrants is $4,000.
Funds are available to nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations in Dare County that promote and develop the arts in the community. State agencies are not eligible.
Proposals will be evaluated for artistic merit, organizational stability, financial stability of the organization, audience development, educational merit, accountability to the community’s artistic needs and community outreach.
Proposals must be for projects between July 1, 2008, and June 30, 2009.
Applicants are asked to use the eGrant software found at the North Carolina Web site, www.ncarts.org. Hard copies of complete subgrant applications must be mailed to and received by the Dare County Arts Council on or before Oct. 1 .

Wine festival set for wednesday
The Whalehead Club will hold its weekly wine festival from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
With a $20 admission, sample a variety of wine from North Carolina and around the world and keep your souvenir glass. A complimentary tour of the Whalehead Club is offered from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Music will be provided by local trio the Mike Sadler Band. Concessions will be available and pets on leashes are welcome. Parking is free.
Final summer concert at club
The final summer concert will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday with music by Scott Franson and Christine Young on the south lawn of the Whalehead Club.
Bring a blanket or beach chair. A Moonlight Legends, Lore and Ghost Tour of the Whalehead Club is offered by advance reservation only.

music and message series wraps up
New Hope United Methodist Church will hold the sixth and final event in its Music and Message series at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Music will be provided by Caroline Wright and The Blessing Boys.
The pastor will deliver a message, “Quick Guide to Christian Living.”
The event is free, and nursery care is provided for infants through age 4.
Reception set for thread art exhibit
The Perquimans Arts League will hold a reception for its Original Thread Art Exhibit at 6 p.m. Friday.
The exhibit by Charles L. Winslow, know for his distinctive style of thread art, will be on display through Oct. 1.
Winslow has received more than 50 awards. He is a member of several professional organizations and was one of the founders of the Long Island Black Artist Association in 1968.
The Hertford native now lives in West Hempstead, N.Y.
Church to hold annual fundraiser
New Hope United Methodist Church will hold its annual fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
There will hot dogs, hamburgers and baked goods for sale, along with the 200th anniversary cookbook, coffee mugs and crafts.
