Individuals curious about the value of an item in their home can bring it to appraisers Jeffrey C. DeHart, of Conestoga Auction Co.; Richard P. Murry, of Elmer Murry Associates Inc.; and Luke R. Witman, of Witman Auctioneers Inc. Each appraiser has his own area of expertise. Appraisal fee is $5 per item.

Proceeds will benefit the Manheim Historical Society. For more information about the society, visit www.manheimpa.com.

The first of a nine-part series titled “Heritage Watchers” will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at Harvest View’s Harvest Room at Landis Homes Retirement Community, 1001 E. Oregon Road, Lititz.

The series will focus on finding heirloom photography and artifacts, and following that with extensive research that results in completing photo captions.

Participants are coached in detective-like research work and in pursuing a continual interview process.

Founding class instructor is Joanne Hess Siegrist, author of the 1996 book “Mennonite Women of Lancaster County: A story in photographs from 1855-1935.”

The series is open to the public, and meets 1-3 p.m. the first Thursday of each month from through May. As the end of the session, participants will tour the archives and library at Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society and the Siegrist home. Contact Joanne Hess Siegrist at 656-6429 or e-mail jhs606@frontiernet.net.
