Day of Learning for City Migrants

August 26, 2008

By TIFFANY, Martin

Sights, sounds and smells from around the world permeated the Waikato Events Centre in Claudelands in Hamilton on Saturday.

These were all part of the third Waikato Migrant Expo, which brought together the region’s ethnic communities for a day of fun, learning, information and food.

The event featured a job fair, education and training opportunities, immigration information, business and investment opportunities, settlement support, an employment workshop, and a health expo.

A new addition was the Asian markets featuring food and culture from the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.

Among the performances were rousing items from representatives of various Pacific island countries.

Organisers were pleased with the turnout and hope for an even bigger event next year.
