Sir Michael Marmot to Keynote APHA Annual Meeting

Access Annual Meeting online program now and plan ahead SIR Michael Marmot, an internationally recognized leader on health inequalities, will be the keynote speaker at APHA’s 136th Annual Meeting in San Diego, the Association announced in June.

Marmot, PhD, MPH, MBBS, FRCP, FFPHM, FMedSci, will speak during this year’s opening session, which will take place Sunday, Oct. 26, from noon to 2 p.m. Marmot is chair of the World Health Organization’s Commission on Social Determinants of Health, which supports countries and health groups in addressing the factors that contribute to Ul health and health disparities.

Marmot is also director of the International Institute for Society and Health at University College London, and is a professor of epidemiology and public health at the college. Marmot, who has had a long career in public health and in addressing health disparities, was a member of the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution for six years and in 2000, was knighted for his work on epidemiology and health inequalities. His speech at the APHA opening session will focus on “Health in an Unequal World: Report from the Commission on Social Determinants of Health.”
