CARROLLTON, Ga., Aug. 27 /PRNewswire/ — Greenway Medical Technologies Inc., a leading provider of single-database, fully integrated electronic health record (EHR), practice management and interoperability solutions, is currently participating in the 2008 Public Health Information Network (PHIN) Conference being held in Atlanta, August 24-28.

The theme of this year’s conference, Public Health Informatics: Collaboration at the Crossroads, brings together leaders in the informatics and interoperability community to advance the interests of PHIN, a national initiative sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) aimed at improving public health by enhancing research and practice through the utilization of efficient, effective and interoperable public health information systems.

Greenway(R), with its CCHIT Certified(R) 2007 Ambulatory EHR, PrimeSuite(R) 2007 R2, is participating in a biosurveillance demonstration showcasing its ability to interoperate and electronically exchange patient health information from participating medical practices with public health registries. Rapidly spreading diseases such as influenza, hepatitis B and HIV can be reported through PrimeSuite from participating medical practices to public health authorities, and any anomalies or potential outbreaks are immediately red flagged. If necessary, these registries will report the outbreak and raise awareness to health centers within the affected communities.

Additionally, PrimeSuite’s CDC-based immunization schedule and forecast module is being showcased at an immunization demonstration that displays PrimeSuite’s ability to interoperate with population-based Immunization Information Systems (IIS). This standards-based exchange is the premier demonstration of the Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise’s (IHE) Immunization Content (IC) profile, exhibiting the transmission and reception of document-based immunization records.

The importance of this exchange is to help EHRs and IISs ensure that all people are properly immunized and are protected against vaccine preventable diseases.

“The ability to interoperate with public health agencies on behalf of participating medical practices that use PrimeSuite is a key component of Greenway’s clinical research and public policy strategy,” said Justin Barnes, vice president of marketing and government affairs at Greenway Medical. “The reporting functionality offered through PrimeSuite enables us to relay critical public health information to registries that, in turn, can relay warnings and alerts that are relevant to the entire community. Demonstrations such as the PHIN Conference highlight the many ways that EHRs are improving healthcare in America, and we are extremely pleased to be participating.”
