Delaware County High School Students on the "Fast Track" for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Training Education

WHO: Executives from the region's advanced manufacturing companies will join forces with economic development organizations and leaders from academia at Delaware County Community College to introduce 40 students from area high schools to one of the nation's most innovative workforce development initiatives. WHAT: Orientation ceremony for students of "Fast Track," an accelerated academic program administered by Delaware County Community College in partnership with the Delaware Valley Industrial Resource Center and area businesses . The program gives seniors from area high schools a jump start on careers in advanced, applied engineering by granting up to 20 college credits towards degrees in fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) a key ingredient for America's competitiveness in the new knowledge-driven global economy. Over the past three years the program has been credited with meeting a critical need for the region's manufacturing companies: qualified, credentialed, educated and skilled human capital. It has been so successful that companies such as Sunoco, Penn Machine, and Synthes have invested heavily to recruit program participants into their operations. The orientation ceremony will introduce the 2009 class and highlight graduates now placed in area companies.
