Officials Say Rabies Vaccine Limited

State health officials say the supply of rabies vaccine for humans is limited nationwide due to a higher demand and a production delay, and they're advising people to take steps to reduce the risks.

The Health Department says rabies vaccine for pets is still widely available. Health officials are urging people to keep their pets up to date on vaccinations and to avoid unknown, stray or wild animals or contact with the saliva of livestock that are ill. They also want people to report animals suspected of being rabid so they can be checked.

Epidemiologist Kirby Kruger says the Health Department has no record of a human rabies case in North Dakota, although people in the state have been treated for possible exposure to rabid animals.
