Posted on: Monday, 6 June 2005, 09:00 CDT

PITTSBURGH, June 6 /PRNewswire/ -- General Nutrition Centers, Inc. (GNC), the nation's largest specialty retailer of nutritional supplements, announced today that National Football League rising star Brandon Lloyd has signed on as the newest member of GNC's Team Pro Performance, an elite group of professional athletes that use Pro Performance sports nutrition products as an integral part of their training. Lloyd joins Major League Baseball pitcher Mark Mulder, who is currently leading an educational campaign focused on safe supplementation, and Los Angeles Angels at Anaheim outfielder and designated hitter Tim Salmon.

As a member of Team Pro Performance, Lloyd will serve as a role model for safe supplementation. In addition, he will be featured in an upcoming print advertising campaign promoting the GNC Pro Performance sports nutrition line.

"I am very excited to be working with GNC, a company that's known for it's quality and proven success in sports nutrition and safe supplementation," said Lloyd. "I believe in the benefits of using the Pro Performance line to naturally complete my nutritional needs missing from my daily diet. I have been working closely with GNC's scientific affairs group in developing a nutritional program to help me reach my health and performance goals."

Lloyd is a wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers. He was drafted by the 49ers in the 4th round of the 2003 draft. He had limited playing time as a rookie but in 2004 became a starter and ended the season with 43 catches for 565 yards and 6 touchdowns. One of those 43 catches was for a career long 52 yard reception.

"Brandon is an up and coming offensive threat in the National Football League and we're excited to have him on Team Pro Performance," said Steven Nelson, Vice President of Marketing for GNC. "He's definitely a player to watch in 2005 as he continues to build his stats and lead his team. GNC is committed to being there to help him achieve those goals."

Lloyd's current diet and supplement program includes the following GNC products:
