JAMESTOWN (AP) – Some North Dakotans are heading to the Gulf Coast, to provide help in areas likely to be hit by Hurricane Gustav.
Randy Fischer with Ringdahl EMS says ambulances and emergency response personnel from Jamestown and Lisbon are part of a larger North Dakota-Minnesota operation sending five ambulances and 22 people south.
An American Red Cross call center in Minot is open, and some Red Cross volunteers from Bismarck have headed to Louisiana. The call center is looking for volunteers.
Forecasters say Gustav has swelled into a major hurricane south of Cuba and could strike the U.S. coast anywhere from the Florida Panhandle to Texas by Tuesday.
