Phase 2 Consulting Appoints John Johnston Senior Managing Director Hospital Operations Consulting

Phase 2 Consulting, a national healthcare management consulting firm, announced it has named John D. Johnston as its Senior Managing Director for Operations, effective August 15. Johnston brings to the firm nearly 17 years of hospital-based financial and operations management and consulting experience.

“John’s operations knowledge, strategic sense and leadership skills are an ideal complement to Phase 2 as we continue to strengthen our hospital operations service line,” said Howard Salmon, Phase 2 Consulting Executive Managing Director. “His ability to offer insight on operational, financial and clinical improvements for both large and small hospital and health systems will be a great asset to our company.”

Johnston most recently served as Vice President of Premier Consulting Solutions, a division of Premier, Inc., an alliance of more than 200 leading non-profit health systems. As Vice President, he was responsible for leading financial turnaround, service line improvement, and supply chain management engagements for Premier member health systems, along with managing the division’s financial and operational performance. During his eleven year tenure at Premier, Johnston also held leadership positions in Premier’s Group Purchasing and Healthcare Informatics divisions. Prior to joining Premier in 1997, Johnston was Assistant Controller at Johnston Memorial Hospital, a 154-bed acute care hospital in Abingdon, VA.

Johnston is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). He holds a Master’s in Healthcare Administration from Trinity University, San Antonio, TX, where he currently serves on its Healthcare Administration Advisory Council, and a Bachelor’s in Accounting from Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, TN.
