Public can attend energy hearings
Public hearings on Westar Energy's proposed 15 percent increase in residential electric rates will take place Tuesday through Thursday in Kansas.The Topeka hearing is 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Kansas Corporation Commission, 1500 S.W. Arrowhead Road. The Salina hearing is 7 p.m. Tuesday at Holiday Inn Convention Center. The Wichita hearing is 7 p.m. Thursday at the Century II Performing Arts & Convention Center.
Westar has filed an application with the Kansas Corporation Commission requesting a $177.6 million rate increase for Westar's retail electric customers. Residential customers would have an average monthly increase of about $10.
Meetings to benefit business owners
The Small Business Development Center at Washburn University will offer a series of interactive classes in Manhattan beginning Sept. 11. Content is appropriate for persons interested in starting a business, strengthening the foundation of an entrepreneurial venture or looking to stimulate growth in an existing business. All sessions will be 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays at 501 Poyntz Ave., Manhattan.

New motel opens for business
The Hampton Inn has opened at 1515 S.W. Arrowhead Road.
The franchised motel is owned by Topeka-based Chaudhry's Investments, which also owns Baymont Inn & Suites, 1401 S.W. Ashworth Place.
The four-story Hampton Inn has 89 rooms, a meeting room, breakfast area, lobby, swimming pool and hot tub, said Adella Chaudhry, owner.

Gooding Law Office changes location
Gooding Law Office has moved to 6600 S.W. 10th, Suite L 100, from 3320 S.W. Harrison.
