PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- The Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) of Greater Philadelphia announces the appointment of Deborah Way, MD, as medical director of its Hospice of Philadelphia. VNA's Hospice of Philadelphia provides hospice care for both adult and pediatric patients living in the Greater Philadelphia region.

"Dr. Way's expertise serves to enhance the excellent level of care Hospice of Philadelphia provides," said Stephen Holt, president and CEO of VNA. "We consider having a physician, especially one as esteemed as Dr. Way, overseeing our hospice program -- full time -- an incredible asset to the VNA that helps to further set us apart. The fact that she still makes home visits, underscores her commitment to our patients."

Dr. Way is currently a staff physician at Jeanes Hospital and is a member of the Pennsylvania Medical Directors Association where she serves on that association's annual meeting curriculum committee. She will be a featured speaker at this year's American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine national conference.

"In my position as medical director, I will continue to ensure our patients receive the exceptional care they have come to expect from Hospice of Philadelphia," said Dr. Way. "Our array of services allows us to give comprehensive care to our patients while making their comfort a top priority."

The VNA's Hospice of Philadelphia enables patients with a serious, progressive illness to approach the end of life as comfortably as possible whether they are in their own home, a nursing home or a personal care facility.

The Hospice team includes registered nurses, social workers, certified nursing assistants, chaplains, spiritual and bereavement counselors, volunteers and pharmacy and dietary consultants, along with 24-hour, 7days-a-week on-call availability. Hospice of Philadelphia's commitment to helping patients and their families transition in the last months of life are evident by their expertise in pain and symptom management, and support and counseling services.
