ThinkGeek Picks Top Tech Gifts for 2008 Holiday Shopping Season

Posted on: Thursday, 4 September 2008, 09:00 CDT

ThinkGeek (http://www.thinkgeek.com), the online retail hub for technology enthusiasts, today unveiled a list of high-tech gadgets expected to be at the top of cutting-edge wish lists during the 2008 holiday shopping season.

"As we're gearing up for the holidays, these products emerged as the likely hits for the season," said Caroline Offutt, general manager, ThinkGeek. "We craft our holiday list based on past sales trends and a few informal marketing surveys. These are our favorites for this year's holiday season."

Among the expected hot products is Electronic Drum Kit Shirt ($29.99), an interactive t-shirt that allows the wearer to step to the beat of their own drums -- literally. Bass-savvy artists can tap out a variety of beats on the printed drums, which emit corresponding sounds through tiny speakers built into the shirt. Other products expected to be popular leading up to and following Cyber Monday include:

-- Giant Microbes Petri Dish Plush ($14.99) - Never has virology been so infectiously adorable! This latest host of cuties in the Giant Microbe series has three plush microbes nestled in an oversized petri dish for corralled cuteness. -- USB Hidden Flash Drive Watch ($59.99) - Perfect for smuggling data out of top secret facilities... or for convenient access to 4 GB of flash drive capacity. The chic stainless steel frame with a brushed silver finish deflects attention from the truly stealthy data storage. -- LED Shower Light ($39.99) - This temperature-sensitive shower fixture bathes cold water in a blue light until it warms up to 89F and then switches to red. But remember, this is the only part of your day where the red light means go. -- Exposed Flip Clock ($59.99) - With exposed motors and gears, this retro clock makes time flip rather than fly. It even features a 24-hour alarm in case the mesmerizing dance of rotating plates and shifting dials makes you, somehow, lose track of time. -- Miracle Berry Fruit Tablets ($19.99) - Don't be such a sourpuss! Derived from the "Miracle Berries" that are popping up at flavor-tripping parties across the country, these safe dissolvable tablets temporarily, and delightfully, make all sour foods taste sweet. -- Lil Guppie Multi-tool ($19.99) - You'll never be a fish out of water with this all-in-one tool. Packing an adjustable wrench, folding razor blade, flat blade wrench, carabineer, and bottle opener, the Lil Guppie swims to the rescue whenever you need it. Aquaman would be proud. -- Beating Heart Stress Relief Pillow ($34.99) - Laboratory test monkeys that could hear their mother's heartbeats have been shown to sleep better and awake more refreshed. Why should you be any different? Let work stresses fade away beneath the gentle pulse generated by this soft, soothing pillow, which changes naturally over time like a real heartbeat. -- 1.3 Megapixel Spy Camera Sunglasses ($99.99) - The next best thing to X-Ray glasses! With a remote to snap 1.3 megapixel images of your view, and a built-in MP3 player with ear buds, it's a gadget cool enough to make James Bond jealous. -- Cyber Surfer ($79.99) - Stand out from the R/C Helicopter flock with this surfing spaceman. He balances mid-air on two legs (and on a built-in solid state gyro) for a truly unique, if vicarious, flight experience. -- iPhone Japanese Touch Pen Stylus ($14.99) - Beat that pesky iPhone typepad at its own game with a stylus that allows precision control while using your phone. A must for the stubby-of-finger or long-of-nail. -- Annoy-A-Tron 2 ($12.99) - Due to popular demand, ThinkGeek's infamous office terror is back, now featuring volume control and new pre-programmed noises for its devious hide and seek game. Place this slim device in a hidden location, and watch the sanity of nearby victims slowly vanish as it emits cricket chirps or doorbell chimes at differing intervals and volume. -- Ion USB VCR ($229.99) - We know you've wanted to do this for a while. Leave the 20th Century behind you, finally. Encode VCRs digitally for transfer to DVD, iPod, or basically any video-playing device in the post-Be Kind Rewind era.
