PBM Industry Veterans Add to Drug-Cost Management Expertise at The Burchfield Group
Two more PBM industry veterans have recently joined the ranks of The Burchfield Group, a consulting firm that helps employers and other health plan sponsors control the costs of providing prescription drug benefits. The Burchfield Group negotiates and audits contacts between pharmacy benefit providers and their PBMs and helps those providers ensure their interests are well represented, so the experience these new team members bring is critical.
Paul Marcus joins The Burchfield Group as senior director of business development, having extensive experience in account management, strategic planning, contract negotiation, and new product development in the managed care segment. Marcus, a registered pharmacist, is responsible for growing the managed care and Medicare Part D markets for The Burchfield Group. He has worked for both ValueRx and Express Scripts, providers of PBM services, and CuraScript, the specialty pharmacy subsidiary of Express Scripts. Prior to joining ValueRx, Marcus practiced community pharmacy and was a pharmacy owner and pharmacy consultant.Wendy Ott is now a consultant with The Burchfield Group after spending more than four years in the PBM industry, working for both Prime Therapeutics and Innoviant. Ott managed a drug discount program on behalf of eight Blue Cross Blue Shield plans while working on the implementation of Medicare Part D at Prime Therapeutics. As a product manager at Innoviant, she created a Medicare team that handled all operational and clinical areas of the Part D programs. Prior to her experience in the PBM industry, Ott worked for Novartis Pharmaceuticals for 10 years.
"Our newest colleagues at The Burchfield Group bring more of the expertise and insight our clients need," said Brian Bullock, president and CEO at The Burchfield Group. "With their hands-on experience in a variety of areas critical to the work we do every day -- from Medicare Part D to specialty pharmacy to pharmacy practice -- Paul and Wendy are welcome additions to The Burchfield Group."
