Live Your Harley Dream . . . For Pounds - 75BIKES

THE perfect biking weekend changes every time you head off . . . the weather, the company, the location, the food, the drink. There is no perfect bike to ride, either.
Obviously if you own a supersports bike then you have little choice but to go for it. Head for twisty roads with lots of action on the way and you have got it made.
But if you are heading abroad it is pretty easy - especially in America - to arrange for bike rentals: sportster, off-roader, whatever you want.
However, if it's Route 66 you fancy then you will need a cruiser.
Luckily, Harley-Davidson has a nationwide dealer network carrying rental bikes as part of its range. It's what the company does.
You can ride the 2400 miles from Chicago to Los Angeles - and even visit a Harley-Davidson factory, but not in Milwaukee.
Kansas City, Missouri, is where the company makes the Sportster, Dyna Glide and V-Rod bikes and it has been voted one of the 10 Great Factories To Visit by the newspaper USA Today.
In Scotland, however, there is not been much choice and it is generally tied into an organised tour. Now it is possible to hire Harleys in Scotland.
West Coast Harley-Davidson in North Street, near Charing Cross, Glasgow, has a new fleet of bikes for daily rental - costing from pounds-75 a day, inclusive of insurance.
Riders must be 21 or over, have a valid bike licence, major credit card and the skills to ride a big bike like the Harley.
Rentals manager Benny Anderson said: "We are excited about the whole rental franchise.
We get calls almost every day from someone wanting to hire our bikes and, until now, we have not been able to help."
If the thought of a factory visit appeals, Triumph Glasgow in Renfrew is organising visits to the Triumph factory at Hinkley in Leicestershire.
You can see the whole operation and if you are lucky get a sneak peek at what is new at the factory.
