Health Occupations Abound for Minorities in Los Angeles Region

 WHO:   Susan Chapman, Ph.D., R.N. and Timothy Bates, M.P.P., co- authors of the Allied Health Workforce Analysis – Los Angeles Region report  WHAT:  Chapman and Bates will present their findings at Los Angeles Allied Health Workforce Convening  WHEN:  Tuesday, September 16, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.  WHERE: The California Endowment’s Center for Healthy Communities, 1000 N. Alameda St., Los Angeles, Calif. 

BACKGROUND: Prepared by the University of California, San Francisco Center for the Health Professions, the Allied Health Workforce Analysis – Los Angeles report assesses the region’s future health care landscape and its “allied health workforce” – professionals who provide a range of diagnostic, technical, therapeutic direct patient care services and support services. Many of the health work force occupations that are fast-growing and that are projected to offer significant employment opportunity are health care support occupations such as home health aide, nursing aide, dental assistant and medical assistant.
