The American Cancer Society Recognizes ARAMARK for Outstanding Contribution to the Fight Against Cancer
The American Cancer Society is pleased to recognize ARAMARK, a global leader in professional services, for their outstanding contribution of more than $265,000 in 2008. Their efforts have demonstrated the company’s dedication to the health and wellness of the Philadelphia community and the mission of the American Cancer Society to eliminate cancer.
ARAMARK’s generous gift will go towards three very specific and important American Cancer Society initiatives. One is the AstraZeneca Hope Lodge of the American Cancer Society, located in Philadelphia. Hope Lodge is a place where cancer patients and their families from out of town can stay free of charge while receiving treatment.
Their support will also fund a program that partners trained American Cancer Society Patient Navigators with community hospitals and cancer centers. This program helps cancer patients and their families navigate the many systems they will have to face during their cancer journey.
The third allotment will go towards the Society’s programs and services such as transportation assistance and emotional support groups.
“ARAMARK proudly supports the American Cancer Society,” said Andrew Kerin, executive vice president, ARAMARK Corporation and president, North America Food, Hospitality and Facility Service. “As a company committed to nutrition and wellness, as well as to the communities in which we all live and work, partnering with organizations like the American Cancer Society is very important to us.”
ARAMARK and its employees have contributed $1.3 million to the Society since 1995. This year’s funds were raised through various events including a golf outing that took place on August 4. The money they have given through the years has helped make it possible for the American Cancer Society to continue to serve those who need it most in our area.
Kerin presented a check to the Society on September 14, 2008 at the Philadelphia Phillies home game where more than 3,400 ARAMARK employees, their families and guests where in attendance.
The American Cancer Society is dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by saving lives, diminishing suffering and preventing cancer through research, education, advocacy and service. Founded in 1913 and with national headquarters in Atlanta, the Society has 13 regional Divisions and local offices in 3,400 communities, involving millions of volunteers across the United States.
