Open Afternoon to Highlight End-of-Life Project
A HOSPITAL is launching a project aimed at improving the environment for patients receiving end-of-life care and their families.
Wansbeck General Hospital in Northumberland has been awarded pounds 30,000 from the Department of Health for the Wansbeck end-of- life care supportive environment project, which will enhance the facilities provided for patients and their families.
Staff will launch the project at a special open afternoon on Saturday.
Project lead, Sharon Hillock, palliative care nurse specialist, said: “We want to provide a comfortable private area with refreshment facilities and overnight accommodation with en suite for the families of our patients receiving end-of-life care.
“The funding we have received is part of a national programme run by the Kings Fund called Enhancing the Healing Environment and is supported by Northumbria Healthcare, who have also pledged pounds 10,000.”
The open afternoon begins at 2pm in the main reception area at Wansbeck, running until 4pm. Anyone who is unable to attend but would still like to be involved in the project should contact Sharon on (01670) 529541.
