Internet’s Largest Sex Health Survey Gets One Millionth Response
The widespread adoption of the Internet makes it the most powerful communication tool ever devised, and can enable research on a scale that would have been unimaginable 20 years ago. One of the first companies to successfully conduct research on a truly massive scale is Sex Health Guru, which created the largest sexual health research tool ever built.
To date, the Sex Health Guru Survey has generated more than 1.2 million responses, and continues to grow with thousands of new responses every day. To achieve such high levels of participation, the survey uses a calculated mix of serious research questions and questions designed to entertain. By engaging the user in this way, and offering complete anonymity, the survey creates an environment where users feel comfortable answering the serious questions honestly.
“We knew that an anonymous on-line sexual health survey would be a powerful research tool, and we thought that visitors to Sex Health Guru would enjoy participating, but we were still surprised by how quickly it has caught on” states Joshua Silberstein, CEO of FullTurn Media.
The research has yielded some surprising results:
— Morning After Pill: 27% of all female respondents reported they had taken the morning-after pill at least once; 19.1% of women under age 18 had already taken it
— Random Unprotected Sex: 43% of men and 40% of women admitted having unprotected sex with a stranger
— Condom Failure: 22.5% of men and 17.5% of women had a condom break during sex
— Alcohol and Sex: 31% of men and 33% of women said that in some circumstances they needed to get drunk to have sex – to manage anxiety, so they’d have an excuse, or, for men at least, to make it easier to have sex with someone “ugly”
— Orgasms: 1.2% of men and 4.9% of women said they could not orgasm, while 2.1% of men and 12.1% of women said they could only orgasm “rarely”
All of the data generated is publicly available to participants, who, after responding to each question, can see statistics on everyone’s answers. As well, because the Sex Health Guru survey is an open research tool, researchers and journalists are encouraged to suggest new questions to be added to the survey.
In addition to collecting data, the survey is a gateway that introduces users to the Sex Health Guru website, a leading sexual health site with over 500,000 unique visitors and 2 million video views per month.
