Endowment Honors Countian
An endowment honoring a late Lancaster physician is being launched this month at Hershey Medical Center.
The endowment is in honor of the late Dr. Mark Hassel, a dermatologic surgeon who died from stomach cancer at age 47 in January 2007.
Hassel had a solo practice and was a clinical professor of dermatology at Hershey Medical Center.
After his death, three area physicians decided to launch a lecture series in his memory. They are Dr. Patrick Feehan and Dr. Stephanie Mackey, both of Lancaster; and Dr. Christine Ammirati of Hershey Medical Center. The three sent out appeals to Hassel’s colleagues, who helped raise $50,000 for the endowment. The endowment will host an annual lecture series for physicians at Hershey Medical Center, which began this month.
