Pennsylvania Department of Health Recognizes 'Health, Wealth and Wellness Week'

Posted on: Monday, 22 September 2008, 12:00 CDT

HARRISBURG, Pa., Sept. 22 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania Department of Health today acknowledged "Health, Wealth and Wellness Week," which runs through Sept. 28.

The week brings together businesses, organizations, government agencies and faith-based groups to reach out to the uninsured -- and under-insured -- with information that can improve their overall health, advance their educational goals and strengthen their financial status.

"Nearly 800,000 Pennsylvania adults lack health insurance and, as a result, too many opt not to go to the doctor when they need to because they cannot afford it," said Michael Huff, deputy secretary for the Department of Health. "Governor Rendell is committed to making health care affordable and accessible for all Pennsylvanians, and 'Health, Wealth and Wellness Week' is a time when we can help do our part."

A kickoff event at the Capitol featured information about health education forums, fitness programs, employment development opportunities, educational resources and financial management skills.
