National Nurses Movement Marches 'The Bridge to Healthcare' Across Golden Gate
Posted on: Monday, 22 September 2008, 12:00 CDT
SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- One thousand registered nurses from the California Nurses Association and National Nurses Organizing Committee (CNA/NNOC) will march the "Bridge to Healthcare" this Friday Sept. 26 at 12 noon, crossing the Golden Gate Bridge en route to a 2:30 p.m. Crissy Field rally demanding guaranteed healthcare for every American.
The nurses support HR 676, U.S. Rep. John Conyers' United States Health Insurance Act, which would guarantee comprehensive, quality health care for every American through a system like an expanded and improved Medicare for All. Such "single-payer" systems are flourishing in nearly every other industrialized democracy... while every year 101,000 Americans lose their lives prematurely because of the failings of our healthcare system.

All events are part of CNA/NNOC's 2008 Staff Nurse Assembly. This year's theme -- "RN Trailblazers" -- spotlights key individuals in the history of nursing who have made the profession what it is today. One thousand RN activists from around the country are converging on San Francisco for the Assembly to plan the next phase of patient advocacy with leaders in the nursing, labor, and political worlds.
