Provista Life Sciences was honored as the winner of the Arizona BioIndustry Association (AZBio) 2008 Bioscience Company of the Year Award, at AZBio's annual dinner on Sept. 18 in Tempe, Ariz. Attended by more than 400 people, AZBio presented six awards, recognizing the best in Arizona bioscience.
Will Gartner, the company's President & CEO who accepted the award on behalf of Provista, said, "We are extremely proud to receive this award from AZBio, as it demonstrates the success of our efforts to improve diagnostics, and our commitment to technology, innovation and saving lives." In March 2008, Provista introduced to the market the BT Test(R), an innovative diagnostic blood test for the early detection of breast cancer.
The BT Test, or Biomarker Translation Test, finds multiple cancer-related proteins in the blood and combines the results with the patient's medical profile to help physicians in their efforts to find breast cancer as early as possible. Clinical research conducted on the BT Test showed an accuracy rate above 80 percent. When used in conjunction with mammography screening and other diagnostic imaging procedures, the BT Test offers women a more comprehensive and cost-effective means to screen for breast cancer.
In addition to the release of the BT Test for breast cancer, Provista is completing a clinical study for a blood test for Alzheimer's disease called the LymPro Test(R). The LymPro Test is a breakthrough blood test designed to work in conjunction with traditional diagnostic methods to help doctors develop a more timely and accurate diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease. Provista Life Sciences is dedicated to advancing diagnostic technology for Central Nervous System diseases, with a specific goal of improving the care and quality of life for people suffering from memory loss and cognitive impairment.
