Braden River Equine Kicks Off Next 1,000 Eklin Digital Radiography Installations

September 24, 2008

SARASOTA, Fla. and SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sept. 24 /PRNewswire/ — The growth rate of digital imaging technologies in veterinary care has been expanding rapidly in recent years. Eklin Medical Systems, a leading supplier of digital radiography (DR), ultrasound, PACS (Picture Archiving and Communications System) and VIA practice management software systems for veterinary medicine, announced it installed its 1,000th RapidStart DR system at Veterinary Surgical Associates in California and kicked off the next 1,000 at Braden River Equine in Sarasota, Florida. Braden River and its sister practice, West Coast Veterinary Center (WCVC), actually installed two RapidStart systems, one for equine patients and another for companion animals. The new facility also purchased an ultrasound and PACS system from Eklin as well.

“We looked at several DR, PACS and ultrasound systems prior to choosing Eklin’s solutions,” said Elizabeth Brown, DVM, founder of Braden Equine and WCVC. “We absolutely want to offer our patients and clients the best in imaging and digital technology. It is gratifying to be able to kick off the next 1,000 Eklin DR system installations and also benefit from other leading imaging modalities available through Eklin as well.”

Just as digital cameras have made photography easier and more efficient by eliminating film, DR systems provide the veterinarian with a radiographic image that can be viewed immediately onsite or at a review workstation, including a high-resolution monitor, without the need for film development. Eklin’s intuitive DR systems also offer sophisticated image processing tools, giving the doctor much greater depth of information that can be enlarged or manipulated for far better detail, resulting in closer scrutiny of potential areas of concern for everything from large dogs to small cats and horses’ legs to elephant feet.

“We have been meticulously planning this new facility over the past five years and wanted to make sure our diagnostic imaging capabilities reflected the latest technology on the market,” said Brown. “Both practices can treat all species combining a holistic medical approach with traditional veterinary care and state-of-the-art digital technology with superb image clarity leading to better diagnoses. This is a major investment for us, but both my colleagues and I believe it is critical for ensuring excellent patient care.”

The new 10,000 square-foot facility is currently undergoing “green” certification by the state of Florida and will be one of the first veterinary clinics in the state to receive this certification. The practice offers in- clinic companion animal care and both in-clinic and ambulatory equine services for patients throughout Sarasota, Bradenton, and Manatee. Brown, who graduated from the University of Florida (UF) Veterinary School of Medicine, along with colleagues Terah Browning, DVM (Ross University) and Sarena von der Heyde, DVM (University of Georgia) specialize in a variety of veterinary care services. These include lameness, internal medicine, rehabilitation, acupuncture and holistic medicine.

“By providing patients with leading digital technology which has been highly successful in the human medical market, Braden River and West Coast are living up to their commitment to outstanding patient care,” said Gary R. Cantu, CEO and chairman of Eklin. “We are pleased to be a part of this excellent group of veterinary care professionals who have started us on our next phase of 1,000 DR system installations.”
