AmeriChoice by UnitedHealthcare and Physicians for Women's Health, the state's largest provider of ob-gyn care, today announced an agreement that will provide members of AmeriChoice by UnitedHealthcare's Charter Oak Plan and HUSKY health programs with access to more than 140 women's health physicians and more than 60 additional practitioners, including certified nurse midwives, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and advanced practice registered nurses in nearly 70 locations throughout the state.
Don Langer, CEO of AmeriChoice by UnitedHealthcare, said, "We are extremely pleased that our Charter Oak and HUSKY members will have access to the full range of services provided by Physicians for Women's Health. The clinical excellence of the specialty care offered in the many Physicians for Women's Health offices will be very valuable for our members. The fact that Physicians for Women's Health clinicians deliver an estimated 30% of all the babies born in Connecticut each year will complement our own Healthy First Steps(TM) program for pregnant women and new moms. AmeriChoice and Physicians for Women's Health are both committed to high quality health care and comprehensive services to beneficiaries of our state's vital health care programs for low income and uninsured residents of Connecticut."
Mark S. DeFrancesco, MD, FACOG, Vice President and Medical Director of Physicians for Women's Health, said. "Physicians for Women's Health believes in giving back to the community. Despite the difficult challenges that medical practices face these days, we realize that our neighbors and fellow citizens of Connecticut need our help. Our agreement with AmeriChoice by UnitedHealthcare will allow us to continue to demonstrate the medical profession's time-honored tradition of service."
