Promising Directions in Hematologic Malignancies: A Guide to Novel Treatments for AML, CLL, and NHL

Posted on: Friday, 26 September 2008, 12:00 CDT

VOORHEES, N.J., Sept. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and are the two most common types of leukemia diagnosed in adults nationwide, and non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) is the most common hematologic cancer nationwide. Treatment for these diseases is complex and often associated with significant toxicity. Many promising new therapies are currently being investigated and researchers are optimistic that these therapies will have an impact on overall survival and quality of life in patients.

As new therapies emerge, it is critical that physicians who treat patients with hematologic malignancies have current education on these therapies, including their mechanisms of action, expected outcomes, and associated adverse events.

To address the need for current education on novel therapies for AML, CLL, and NHL, Robert Michael Educational Institute LLC (RMEI) and Postgraduate Institute for Medicine (PIM) have jointly sponsored a free continuing medical education monograph titled Promising Directions in Hematologic Malignancies: A Guide to Novel Treatments for AML, CLL, and NHL. This monograph, which includes a learning assessment and evaluation, is supported by an educational grant from Cephalon, Inc.

Faculty reviewer for this monograph is Archie Bleyer, MD, Clinical Research Professor at the Oregon Health & Science University School of Medicine in Portland, Oregon.

Healthcare professionals can download a copy of this self-study monograph by visiting http://www.rmei.com/hememonograph.

"Quality continuing medical education is vital to developing and increasing knowledge and skills and enhancing patient care," says RMEI President and CEO, Robert M. Colleluori.
