Heartland Regional Medical Center Launches Patient Flow Improvement Project With PatientFlow Technology

Posted on: Monday, 29 September 2008, 09:00 CDT

PatientFlow Technology, Inc., a leading provider of patient flow management tools and services for hospitals, today announced that Heartland Regional Medical Center has entered into a hospital-wide patient flow improvement project at Heartland Health System's 400-bed, flagship hospital located in St. Joseph, MO. This project will focus on the elective surgical schedule and its impact on overall hospital capacity.

This project is a data driven, science-based effort that combines operations management techniques and queuing theory to improve patient flow throughout the organization and thereby improve patient safety and quality. A critical success factor for this mission is a close collaboration among the medical staff, hospital and system leadership in smoothing scheduled demand, reducing artificial variability and optimally allocating capacity to meet patient needs.

"Heartland Regional Medical Center's work to improve patient flow through the organization is testament to our commitment to patient-centered care in a fully integrated healthcare delivery system," said Lowell C. Kruse, CEO.

"We look forward to smoothing the flow of patients through our hospital. The hospital and the physicians are enthusiastic and engaged to make this better for all of us -- especially our patients," said Carolyn Paden, administrator.

"The surgeons are actively participating in this project and look forward to the improved quality, safety and satisfaction that this project will provide to an already outstanding organization," said W. Steven Long, MD, Heartland general and trauma surgeon.

"Heartland clearly recognizes the importance of patient flow to superior patient care. We are excited about working in partnership with its leadership team, doctors and nurses in enhancing patient flow through the application of operations management techniques," said Rick Siegrist, president and CEO of PatientFlow Technology.
