Breastfeed to Cut Cancer Risks By 5%
MOTHERS who breastfeed for a year over their lifetime, are five per cent less likely to develop breast cancer.
A study found breastfeeding cuts the level of some cancer- related hormones in the mother’s body, reducing the risk of the disease.
Dr Rachel Thompson, of the World Cancer Research Fund, said: "It is something positive women can do to cut their risk of breast cancer."
Meanwhile, a study claims people are 15 per cent more worried about cancer than 10 years ago, despite better treatment and survival.
Researchers for Leukaemia CARE used a "worry scale" of one to 10. Top of the fear list was breast cancer, up from 6.3 to 7.6, and lung cancer, 6.3 to 7.5. Cervical and skin cancer were also big dreads.
