CARROLLTON, Ga., Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ — Greenway Medical Technologies Inc., today announced that its flagship electronic health record (EHR), PrimeSuite 2008, is a fully CCHIT Certified(R) 08 ambulatory EHR, according to criteria set forth by the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT(R)), including certification for cardiovascular medicine and child health. The Commission is the recognized certification body (RCB) by the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for certifying health information technology (HIT) products.

In order to be 08 CCHIT Certified, PrimeSuite 2008 met all the requirements including enhancements to CCD-based interoperability and e-Prescribing functionality that improves access to a patient’s medical history and a longitudinal electronic patient health record. The Commission expanded their criteria from the 2007 certification process to include required improvements such as advanced medication dosing features that take into account specific patient needs and inherent safeguards within the EHR that prevent adverse reactions due to drug interactions and/ or allergies.

Each year, EHR companies such as Greenway(R) have the opportunity to voluntarily test their products against a rigorous set of criteria in order to receive the current version of CCHIT Certification. By choosing PrimeSuite(R), a physician can expect to utilize a solution that has met such criteria, including functionality, interoperability and security.

“More and more, physicians are seeking CCHIT Certified EHRs,” said Justin Barnes, vice president of marketing and government affairs at Greenway Medical. “We have invested tens of millions of dollars into PrimeSuite to make it the most usable at the point-of-care and comprehensive EHR on the market. We possess one of the only fully integrated, single-database EHR, practice management and interoperability solutions based on the Microsoft .NET framework available and intend to continue to meet and exceed the requirements necessary to remain the leading provider of ambulatory HIT technology.”

“Two key new areas of interoperability are required to achieve 08 certification,” said Mark Leavitt, M.D., Ph.D., chair, CCHIT. “First, ambulatory EHRs must be capable of advanced electronic prescribing functions so physicians can qualify for bonuses under Medicare’s new incentive program. Second, EHRs must be able to send and receive an electronic patient summary. These and other new criteria will ensure that certified health IT products help improve quality, safety and efficiency while protecting the privacy of health information.”
