Summit to look for ideas, plans
The State of New Mexico Women's Health Planning Summit is scheduled for Thursday at the Sheraton Uptown at 2600 Louisiana NE.
"Anyone with an interest in the future of women's health in New Mexico is invited to attend," Mary Molina Mescall, executive director of the N.M. Commission on the Status of Women, said in a news release.
According to the release, topics will include:
* Issues surrounding women's health in New Mexico;
* Creating a legislative task force to come up with additional strategies for developing women's health policy; and
* Beginning to implement ideas to improve service delivery to promote health and reduce the burden of preventable disease and injury among women and girls.
The state Legislature approved a memorial this year to study the establishment of an Office of Women's Health under the leadership of the commission. The commission, in collaboration with Women's Health Services Community Center of Excellence in Women's Health will conduct the summit.
"In addition to key state and human services officials, we are inviting representatives of the health and human services organizations as well as state agencies, local governments, community representatives, legislators and private individuals," Mescall said.
Registration is free and includes lunch; however, seating is limited. RSVP to Kathy Chavez at (505) 841-8920 or (800) 432-9168.
