Bandana Night for Cancer Fund
A whitleigh woman is covering up for the sake of her courageous friend at an event tomorrow night.
Nikki Street, 27, is staging a Bandana and Karaoke night at The Bank pub in the city centre from 8pm in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and the Mustard Tree.
Her friend Jackie Summers, who was diagnosed with lymphoma a year ago, is undergoing chemotherapy and wears a bandana to hide her hair loss.
“I think Jackie and other cancer patients are very brave, and I want to show how fantastic everyone can look wearing bandanas,” Nikki said. “We hope everyone who comes will also wear a bandana or other headgear.
“We’ll have karaoke and a raffle. Two chaps, Dave Dolton and Chris Newell, are having their heads shaved and have already raised more than pounds400 in sponsorship. If anyone else wants to raise money by being shaved, we’ll have professional hairdressers there on the night.”
Jackie said: “The support from both the Mustard Tree and Macmillan Cancer Support was there from day one if I needed it, particularly with information when I was going through the very hard part of telling my two children of my illness.”
