Bio-Matrix Scientific Group, Inc. Receives and Processes First Cord Blood Specimens As Part of the Company's Quality Assurance Program

Posted on: Wednesday, 1 October 2008, 09:00 CDT

Bio-Matrix Scientific Group Inc. (OTCBB:BMSN), a biotechnology company focused on adult stem cell processing and cryogenic storage, announced today that they have received and processed human umbilical cord blood units as part of their long-term liquid nitrogen storage quality assurance and testing program.

The processing and storage of these cord blood stem cells is solely for the purpose of validating the handling, processing and cryopreservation of cord blood specimens. The cord blood stem cells were obtained from donor cord blood units and processed in the Company's cord blood division laboratory using well established separation techniques aimed at enriching the stem cell content. The Company will utilize these cord blood stem cells to enhance its ongoing quality assurance program for its cellular storage division by allowing periodic monitoring of the cellular viability of these specimens over their storage life, assuring our clients of optimal cryostorage conditions.

In addition, these cryopreserved stem cells have been used to validate Bio-Matrix's procedure for the eventual shipping of stored cord blood stem cells for transplantation purposes, often for life-threatening diseases. Viability of each specimen was assessed prior to shipment and upon receipt at the receiving institution. Maintenance of the viability of these specimens during shipment combined with extensive temperature data logging assures the receiving patient of optimal condition of stem cells to be transplanted.

Stem cell cryopreservation and storage involves the collection and processing of stem cells from tissue, such as cord blood and the storage in liquid nitrogen. These banked stem cells can be preserved in this way for many years and may be used in future medical procedures program.

The Company is currently finalizing several previously announced potential contracts and is in discussions with several other companies regarding the processing and storage of stem cells derived from cord blood and peripheral blood. The Company's Quality Assurance Program will be a key factor in moving forward to finalize contracts with several entities for the processing and storage of stem cells from cord blood and peripheral blood.
