Exercise Sessions for Patients in Rural Areas ; Your NHS in Northumberland

EXERCISE sessions are being run as part of Northumberland Care Trust's cardiac rehabilitation programme for people in rural areas.

Groups in Belford, and Wooler meet every week and Haltwhistle once a month for a two-hour session of exercise and healthy living advice.

The programme lasts for 12 weeks but when places are available, many patients continue to attend the sessions. The classes are an opportunity for people living in isolated areas to interact with other people in the group and offer support to one another, as well as do their exercises.

Almost 250 patients from remote areas have taken part in the cardiac rehabilitation programme which was originally set up in 2004 and initially supported by a pounds 120,000 grant from the British Heart Foundation.
