Health Announcements


Anne Arundel Medical Center and the Southern Maryland Arthritis Foundation will host a fibromyalgia seminar from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the medical center's Sajak Pavilion, second floor conference center, 2002 Medical Parkway.

This seminar is designed to help raise awareness and promote an understanding of this condition.

BWMC programs

Baltimore Washington Medical Center is offering the following programs at the center's Outreach Center at Arundel Mills and the mall's food court. The center is located between mall entrance No. 4 and Dave and Buster's.

A free health fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday in the mall's food court. This event includes the following screenings: foot, blood pressure, carbon monoxide, osteoporosis, neck and back. Educational exhibits also will be offered and promotional items will be available.

Free foot screenings will be available from 8 to 10 a.m. Thursday and Oct. 23 at the Outreach Center. Podiatrist Jenny Nguyen will examine feet for bone and skin irregularities and make recommendations for footwear purchases.

BWMC's Joslin Diabetes Center will be offering "Diabetes Discussion" from 9 to 10 a.m. beginning Tuesday at the Outreach Center. The discussions are open to those with diabetes and their family members. Reservations are not required.

Girls' Night Out

Registrations are being accepted for Girls' Night Out, a free program for women 40 years and older that offers women an opportunity to have fun and receive breast health information.

The program will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 16 at Annapolis Senior Center, 119 S. Villa Ave.

Activities include a presentation on women's breast health, discussions with health care professionals and breast cancer survivors, dinner, exhibits and door prizes. To register, call 410- 222-7979 weekdays between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Red Cross courses

Central Maryland Red Cross is offering the following cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid classes Saturday and Oct. 25 at three locations in Anne Arundel County.

An adult CPR and Automated External Defribrillator class will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Severna Park United Methodist Church, 731 Benfield Road in Severna Park. The cost is $52.

An adult, child, and infant CPR class will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Anne Arundel County Police Department, 35 Stepneys Lane in Edgewater. The cost is $55.

A first aid and adult CPR class will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 25 at Stanton Community Center, 92 W. Washington St. The cost is $52.
