College Honors 2 Local Officials

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Mount Mercy College honored 10 alumni, including two tri-state area residents, during a recognition luncheon Saturday as part of Mount Mercy's Homecoming 2008 celebration.

Manchester resident Patricia Ryan Doyle was awarded the Distinguished Service Award for improving quality of life in the community.

Doyle, vice president of Nursing and Quality Services of Regional Medical Center in Manchester, helped develop a cardiac rehab unit in order to assist and educate the people of her community on healthy cardiac lifestyles. She also helped spearhead the Outpatient Specialty Clinic, which enables people in rural areas to receive medical care.

Doyle actively serves on the Advisory Council and Patient Safety Committee for Iowa Healthcare Collaborative. At its onset, Doyle was the only nurse at the state level on the Council. In 2007, Doyle was honored as one of the 100 Great Iowa Nurses.

The Professional Achievement Award went to seven alumni for contributions in their professional field, including Dubuque resident Mary Rose Corrigan, public health specialist for the city of Dubuque.
