Charity to Lobby MP Over Services for Old People

October 7, 2008

By HANNAH TAYLOR

Age Concern Torbay is inviting over 55s and carers to talk to Bay MP Adrian Sanders about care for older people.

The event is being held at Brookfield House, Brookfield Close, Paignton, on Friday between 10.30am and 12.30pm.

The meeting is part of a major new campaign by Age Concern, The Big Q, which aims to challenge all politicians to give a commitment to improve the quality of care for older people.

The outcome of the event will feed into the campaign.

Steve Knight, volunteer and service development manager of Age Concern Torbay, said: “People up and down the country are fed up with fighting to get the care they need in later life, either for themselves or for their loved ones.

“Torbay has a higher than average elderly population and is making good progress on integrating health and social care services as a care trust.

“Events like this are an excellent opportunity for local older people and their carers to let local health and social care commissioners know what type of services they most value and which are effective in enabling them to retain their independence.”
