Oxford Church ‘Turning on the Light’ at Missions Conference

OXFORD – The annual missions conference at Oxford Advent Christian Church on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 11 and 12, will feature an international banquet and costume contest among its activities.

The public is invited to participate in the two days of events at the church on Route 26. At least 18 ministries that serve people from Maine to China have already registered to set up display booths. Representatives from each will be present to explain their work.

This year’s theme is “Turning on the Light.”

The keynote speaker will be Moses Angbongy of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, who will address attendees at 7 p.m. Saturday. The former missionary and leader of the Namibia Advent Christian Church is vice president of the Advent Christian work in central and southern Africa.

His talk will follow the banquet of international foods and a costume contest for anyone wanting to dress in international garb. He will also be guest speaker at the Sunday worship service at 10 a.m.

Former OACC senior pastor, the Rev. Tim Fox of Stanfield, N.C., will address the conference at 5:30 p.m. Sunday and issue a challenge to others to serve in missions. The Maine native is director of World Outreach for the denomination. His grandparents, David and Alice Osborne, were missionaries to Japan from 1954 to 1970.

Leading worship at evening services and on Sunday at 10 a.m. will be Tim Jewett, son of OACC lead pastor, the Rev. Frank Jewett. The family served as missionaries in the Philippines in the 1980s before moving to Oxford.

Tim Jewett lives in Millersburg, Pa., and is minister of music at David’s Community Bible Church there. He graduated from Lancaster Bible College in Lancaster, Pa. with a degree in Bible and music.

The conference schedule includes:

Saturday, Oct. 11: 7 a.m., men’s breakfast; 9 a.m., workshop; 10 a.m., display booths; 10:45 a.m., workshop; noon, lunch; 1 p.m., foliage trip, golf scramble, video and elementary-age children’s activities; 4 p.m., display booths; 5:30 p.m., international banquet and costume contest; 7 p.m., service with Moses Angbongy and Tim Jewett.

Sunday, Oct. 12: 8:30 a.m., Sunday school for all ages; 9:30 a.m., coffee hour; 10 a.m., worship service; 5:30 p.m., closing service with the the Rev. Tim Fox and Tim Jewett.
