Free Service Allows User to Securely Store Health Information Online

Posted on: Wednesday, 8 October 2008, 15:00 CDT

My Personal Health Record (a not-for-profit organization) is launching a no-cost secure and confidential online service that allows users to keep health information organized, accurate and in one place. Users can interactively input, maintain and update their own health information online from any location at anytime at: www.myPHR.ca.

Members can also print a free emergency wallet card online containing emergency contacts, medical conditions, allergies, blood type, login information and etc. Members can carry this card at all times so that it will be available for first responders in case of an emergency where sometimes having this vital information can mean the difference between life or death.

Personal Health Records (PHR) are a growing trend in the medical industry. Your health information is scattered across many different providers and facilities. Keeping your own complete, updated, and easily accessible PHR means you can play a more active role in your healthcare.

Members will be able to give access to their PHR to their physicians or healthcare providers. This will allow healthcare providers quick access to information such as allergies, past surgeries, current and past medications, medical conditions, contact information of other healthcare providers and insurance information. Members have complete control over what information they want to be included in this report.

My Personal Health Record's service will increase the efficiency in which a patient can share their medical information. It will increase the patient's safety when they receive medical care in cases where the patient forgets important medical information or in an emergency situation where the patient cannot communicate their medical information.

By investing just a few minutes, you can feel confident that you'll have access to your family's comprehensive health information should a medical emergency arise or if you just want to share health information with a doctor.

In times of crisis it is often difficult to remember important details. If you or a member of your family are suddenly taken ill or in an accident, accurate health information can be critical for fast treatment. Information about allergies, supplements, and insurance is essential. Emergency contact numbers need to be easily available especially if you are unconscious.

"Security and privacy is our number one priority," said President Tracy Warren. "We are the only service I know of that is compliant with recent privacy laws and have a Certified Hackerproof Website (tested daily by an independent third party). Members are notified if anyone views their records and a log is kept of all computer addresses accessing the service. The connections and passwords are encrypted with the same or better technology that the banks use and we are not subject to the USA Patriot Act."

Travel anywhere in the world and in the event you need to see a doctor or are hospitalized users will have access to their secure and comprehensive record of medical history, prescriptions, physician contact information as well as insurance information and family members to contact in case of an emergency or natural disaster.
