Girl, 10, Still Critical After Plunge

October 8, 2008

A 10-YEAR-OLD girl remains in a critical condition after falling through a skylight at a Northumberland social club.

Danielle Bell, 10, had been playing with friends on the roof at Prudhoe and Mickley Unionist Club when it is understood she fell 12ft on to concrete suffering serious injuries.

She was taken to Newcastle General Hospital where she is believed to have been treated for head injuries, a punctured lung, a broken jaw, and nose.

Andrew Newton, 39, a caterer, found Danielle unconscious after the fall, which happened at about 6pm on Sunday at the club in Prudhoe, Northumberland.

Mr Newton said: “Me and my mate were watching the football in the club and we went to go to the toilet.

As we went through the corridor she was just there on the ground.

“She looked totally lifeless, she wasn’t moving at all. I was with my friend who phoned the ambulance straight away. I must commend the ambulance crew. They were there in two minutes.”

Danielle is understood to be in a critical, but stable condition in hospital. The youngster, pictured left with her mother Angela Bell, was also rescued from a fire at her home in Winchester Close, Ashington, last year.
