CRF Inc. And Ferraris Respiratory Launch Bluetooth(TM) Enabled eDiary Solution for Respiratory Clinical Trials

Posted on: Monday, 27 June 2005, 09:00 CDT

CRF Inc., the world leader in electronic Patient Reported Outcomes (ePRO) and wireless data collection solutions for the biopharmaceutical industry, today announced that it has collaborated with Ferraris Respiratory to develop the first-ever, Bluetooth(TM) enabled eDiary solution for respiratory clinical trials. This new solution, which integrates Ferraris Respiratory's PiKo-1(TM) Peak Flow Meter and CRF Inc.'s eDiaries, will be launched at the Drug Information Association (DIA) Annual Meeting, June 26-30 in Washington, DC.

"We are honored to work with Ferraris Respiratory to introduce this new solution and are proud to continue to lead innovation in the eDiary industry," said Pamela McNamara, Chief Executive Officer of CRF Inc. "The seamless and wireless integration of devices like peak flow meters with e-Diaries is a great advancement for this industry. Our new solution is designed to be easy for trial sponsors and clinical sites to implement and very simple for patients to use. Furthermore, this technology has the potential to dramatically improve clinical trials - enhancing the collection, accuracy and reliability of patient data."

The new eDiary solution captures patient data directly from Ferraris Respiratory's PiKo-1(TM) Peak Flow Meter and transmits it via Ericsson's Bluetooth wireless communication system to a palmOne(TM) Tungsten PDA equipped with CRF Inc.'s TrialMax(TM) software. The peak flow meter and PDA lock to ensure that the data is transmitted and captured securely. Protocol-specific questionnaires contained within the TrialMax eDiary can record other required patient information, including quality of life data and health alerts. The resulting solution is an all-in-one study management tool.

"This new solution includes trusted technologies from industry leaders," added McNamara. "Ferraris Respiratory's peak flow meter is small and easy for patients to use and palmOne's Tungsten has been proven to allow fast data collection and assured data validity. Bringing these two devices together with Bluetooth communication frees patients from wires and cables and ensures instantaneous and accurate transfer of data."

The most widely used ePRO solution in the world, CRF Inc.'s TrialMax provides real-time patient monitoring, outstanding data accuracy, unrivaled flexibility, increased patient safety, and enhanced efficiency.

In addition to providing demonstrations of its new integrated solution and TrialMax software at DIA, CRF Inc. personnel will be on hand to discuss how trial sponsors can ensure that their eDiary studies run smoothly, efficiently and effectively. CRF Inc.'s team has experience in 32 therapeutic indications with particular expertise in pain, oncology, gastrointestinal and genitourinary conditions, metabolic disorders, dermatology, respiratory disease and vaccines. The company has experience designing studies for a range of patient populations - from children to the elderly - and consistently delivers high site satisfaction and patient compliance rates exceeding 95 percent.

Those interested in a demonstration or more information about CRF Inc. can visit the company at DIA at booth 1151.
