Changes World Mental Health Day Marked at New Vic Theatre

October 12, 2008

Mental Health ACT: A networking and mental health awareness event was held for service users, commissioners and mental health service providers.

Yesterday’s Changes World Mental Health Day event called Getting In On The Act, at the New Vic Theatre in Basford, involved a series of workshops which allowed visitors to interact with writers and actors.

In the afternoon the Etruria Cafe Theatre performed A Matter of Time – a prize-winning comedy by local playwright Dave Wheat, which tackles mental health issues.

Elsewhere, mental health centres across Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire opened their doors to showcase their treatments.

Harplands Hospital in Hartshill and the Lyme Brook Resource Centre at Bradwell Hospital both held events.

At Harplands there were therapy taster sessions and music from St John’s Primary School, and at Lyme Brook there were stalls from a range of voluntary and community organisations.

Pictured in the New Vic production are Nick Dale as James, Jenny Sys as Amy and Laura Kettle as Sarah.
